Celeste Jane "Jennie" Washington

Celeste Jane "Jennie" was born May 20, 1843, the eighth of 12 children of Matthew and Catherine Washington. While the older girls found suitable husbands and married, Jennie remained unmarried and lived at the Washington home her entire life.

Jennie was a small child during the war. Kate Bradford remembers that "Jennie, Sallie, and Mazie remained at home and went to a little log school house four miles away near Wannville.." rather than being sent away to school as the older girls were before the war.

Jennie must have been a good aunt. Many girls in the family bear her name today. Kate talks about Aunt Jennie and Aunt Mazie spoiling them when they were children.

Jennie died August 12, 1907 and is buried in the Washington Cemetery in Stevenson. She never married and has no descendants.
