Hugo A. Neumann, 71, of 2 East Water St., Kiel, a retired building contractor and former Kiel mayor, died Monday afternoon at Sheboygan Memorial Hospital. Born on Aug. 12, 1892 in Kiel, he was a son of the late August and Agnes Jochmann Neumann. He graduated from Kiel High School in 1914 and served in the armed forces during World War I. He married the former Freda Meili of New Holstein on August 25, 1923.
Mr. Neumann worked for his father in the construction business and in 1923 took over the firm. He retired in 1955. He was a member of the Kiel F & AM Lodge 336, the Kasper-Beckley-Wilken American Legion Post, the First Presbyterian Church and the Men's Club of the church. Mr. Neumann served as an alderman for five years and became mayor of Kiel in 1945, serving in that capacity until 1951. He was also president of the Kiel Savings & Loan Association from 1953 to 1967.
Survivors include his wife; one son, Donald of Milwaukee; and one granddaughter. One son, Richard, and two sisters and one brother preceded him in death.
Funeral services will be held Thursday at the First Presbyterian Church, Kiel, the Rev. Allen Bowe, pastor, officiating. Burial will be in the Kiel Cemetery.
