Following the war, Charles and a number of his siblings relocated to Ottawa County Michigan. In 1868 he married Lydia Sorrick and in the 1870 census he was living with Lydia and her parents in Polkton Michigan. His father, Nehemiah, and three of his siblings next door. In 1870 Charles was a farm laborer, but in the 1880 r census listings his occupation was carpenter. By 1900 and 1910 he was listed as a farmer. Charles and Lydia, along with their children, lived in Coopersville, Michigan. They had four children total with three, Augusta, Clara, and Julia living to adulthood and one Luella May dying as young child.
