TYNER - Hunter Willard Blanchard, 79, of the 500 block of Sign Pine Road, died Sunday, Jan. 6, 2008, in Albemarle Hospital, Elizabeth City.
Mr. Blanchard was born in Chowan County and was the son of the late Willard and Gertrude Berryman Blanchard. A retired farmer and pork producer, he was a member of Warwick Baptist Church , attended Happy Home Pentecostal Holiness Church and was an Army veteran of the Korean War. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Beulah Wiggins and a brother, Thomas Blanchard.
Surviving are his wife of more than 33 years, Vertie Copeland Blanchard; two daughters, Pam Perry and husband Johnny of Edenton and Ruby Hollowell of Greenville, N.C.; a son, Rube Blanchard and wife Desiree of Hobbsville; two sisters, Homer Benton of Hobbsville and Virginia Lee Nixon of Gates; five grandchildren, Stephanie Hilsenbeck and husband Darren, Aaron Blanchard, Mindy Forward and husband Jason, Brandon Perry and Amber Biggs and husband B.J.; and three great-grandchildren, Devin Hilsenbeck, Kelsey Hilsenbeck and Caroline Forward; and several nieces, nephews and extended family members.
A funeral will be held Tuesday at 2 p.m. in Happy Home Pentecostal Holiness Church by the Rev. Chuck Davis, the Rev. Henry Pillow and the Rev. Billy Presley. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Friends may join the family today from 7 to 8:30 p.m. in Miller Funeral Home & Crematory, 735 Virginia Road, Edenton, and all other times at the residence.
