Virginia Lee Blanchard Nixon, 92, of 695 Saunders Road, died Friday, Aug. 1, 2014 in Southampton Memorial Hospital, Franklin, Va.
Mrs. Nixon was born in Chowan County on March 25, 1922 and was the daughter of the late Willard and Gertrude Berryman Blanchard. A homemaker, she was a member of Reynoldson Baptist Church. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Henry Lloyd Nixon; her sister, Beulah Wiggins; brothers Thomas and Hunter Blanchard; and by a daughter-in-law, Nancy Nixon. Surviving are her daughter, Patricia Matosky and husband, Andy, of Kingsport, Tenn.; three sons, Paul Nixon of Franklin, Carroll Nixon and wife, LaRoyce, of Suffolk, Va., and Willard Nixon of Gates; a sister, Homer Benton of Hobbsville; eight grandchildren, Jeffrey, Michael, Kirk, Melissa, Heidi, Lisa, Leslie, and Jason; ten great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild. Funeral services will be held Wednesday at 2 p.m. in Reynoldson Baptist Church by the Rev. Cody Brinkley and the Rev. Billy Presley. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Friends may join the family Tuesday from 7 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. in Miller Funeral Home, 304 Main Street, Gatesville, and other times at the residence.
