Alton Abernethy, 88, died Tuesday, Sept 14, 1993 in Colonial Manor I Nursing Home in Hollis. Graveside services were held at 11 a.m. Friday, Sept 17 in Fairmount Cemetery, Hollis with Rev Elvis Pitts, retired pastor, officiating. Burial was under the direction of Patterson Greer Funeral Home, Hollis, OK.

He was born May 20, 1905 in Saint Jo to John W and Sally Amelia Abernethy. Mr Abernathy married Edith Parker Dec 28, 1943 in Mission. She preceded him in death May 31, 1983. He served in the Army Air Corp during World War II and he worked most of his life at cotton gins in Wellington and Hollis. He was a member of the Baptist church.

Survivors include a son, John Abernethy of Amarillo; a sister Evelyn Gordon of Hollis, a grandson, a granddaughter and a great grand -daughter, and a nephew, Forrest Abernethy of Wellington.
