Miles served stateside in the U.S. Army during World War II, then worked for more than two decades each at the Endicott-Johnson Shoe Factory in Tunkhannock and Procter & Gamble in Mehoopany. He enjoyed working his farm, located on what is now Anderson Road, and was an avid outdoorsman, who loved fishing, gardening, hunting and woodworking. He especially enjoyed spending time with family and friends, whom he often entertained by singing or by playing his harmonica and other instruments. Even in his final days, he maintained a strong relationship with God. He solidified this relationship during his lifetime through service as a church deacon, Sunday school teacher and Bible study leader.
Miles was preceded in death by his parents, as well as his brothers, Robert, Edward and Roy; and sisters Anna, Beulah, Emma, Naomi and Ruth. Miles is survived by all four of his children, William (Mary) Anderson, Newark Valley, N.Y.; Jeannie (Eugene) Woodruff, Tunkhannock; Steve Anderson, Meshoppen; and Sandra Anderson, Wilkes-Barre; five brothers, John, Ralph and Lyle Anderson, all of Tunkhannock; Nelson Anderson, Easton; and Raymond Anderson, Meshoppen; three sisters, Lois Button, Dallas; Shirley Weaver, Huson, Mont.; and Thelma Anderson, Scranton. He is also survived by seven grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren, who remember a man who, even during difficult times, appreciated the joy and wonder of daily living.
The family will receive visitors from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, January 13, at the Harding-Litwin Funeral Home, 123 W. Tioga St., Tunkhannock. Memorial service will be held Wednesday, January 14, at the funeral home, at 11 a.m. Interment will be at Sunnyside Cemetery, Tunkhannock. Memorial donations, in Miles' memory, may be made to the Tunkhannock Ambulance Association.
