Murvil Gartman of Fort Gates died January 27 in Gatesville. He was 83.
Services were held Friday at Scott's Funeral Home with Rev. Rex Tilly officiating. Burial was in Restland Cemetery.
Mr. Gartman was born on March 27,1909, in Bell County, son of the late Charlie and Martha May Gartman. He moved to Coryell County as a child in 1913, and attended school in the Stampede community.
He married Miss Odessa White on May 14, 1932, in Killeen.
Mr. Gartman was a lifelong farmer, but in his later years, he had worked as a security guard for MATES, retiring in 1975.
Survivors include his wife, Mrs. Odessa Gartman of Fort Gates; two daughters, Charlene May of Chula Vista, California and JoAnn Barnett of Gatesville; three sons, Donald (Donnie) Gartman, and M.D. Gartman, both of Gatesville, and Randall Gartman of Port Aransas; two sisters, Almo Cato of Ruston, Louisiana, and Ruby Dyer of Nacogdoches; two brothers, Aubrey Gartman of Arnett and J.C. Gartman of San Antonio; ten grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.
Pallbearers were Wayne Gartman, Jimmy Dale Gartman, Joey Barnett, Allen Stevens, Doug Young, Cleddy Baize, John Ward and Ronald White.
Honorary pallbearers were Otha Thompson, Sonny Sadler, James Yows, Howard Hitt, Claude Autrey, Jerry Howe, Ronnie Hunt, Ronald Ray and Glenn Gartman.
The family requests memorials be made to Cedar Ridge Church of Christ or to the Coryell Memorial Hospital Ambulance Fund.
