Mrs. A. Chalupnik, 85, Dies at Home of Traer Daughter
Old Resident of Tama County Buried Yesterday in Buckingham Cemetery
Mrs. Antonie Chalupnik, 85, died about 5 p. m. Tuesday at the home of a daughter, Mrs. Joseph Soucek in Traer, following a brief illness of heart disease. Apparently in her usual good, health all day Monday, she became ill shortly after retiring and a physician was summoned. The latter found her condition critical and it so remained until her death. The funeral service was held at the Soucek home at 3 p. m. yesterday and was in charge of the Rev. H. W. Singer, pastor of the local Methodist church. Pallbearers were all grandsons of the decedent. Burial was in Buckingham cemetery.
Mrs. Chalupnik, whose maiden name was Antonie Salasek, was born in Bohemia, March 15, 1844. When she was about 22 years old, she came alone to America. After working for a year around Marshalltown she was married to Anton Chalupnik, who died here nearly twenty years ago. The couple first lived at Quarry, then farmed for a few years near Tama. Then they moved to Carroll township, where they resided until they retired and moved to Traer about twenty-five years ago. Mr. Chalupnik died in November 1910. His wife lived alone there until about twelve years ago, and if tor that time made her home with her daughters.
Mrs. Chalupnik was the mother of ten children, two of whom died in childhood. Those living are as follows Joseph J. Chalupnik, of Jesup, Iowa.; J. Chalupnik, Lakefield, Minnesota, Mrs. Joe Drahos, west of Traer; Mrs. Frank Vlasak Sr., of Belle Plaine, Mrs. Louis Vlasak, seven miles south of Traer; Mrs. Steve Adamek and Mrs. Joseph Soucek, Traer; and Mrs. Ludvik Peshel, northwest of Toledo. There are thirty-seven living grandchildren and several great grandchildren. Mrs. Chalupnik was the last of her family, all of her brothers and sisters serving preceded her in death.
