Polly Hatfield

Died at her home near Mount Nebo Church in Douglas County, October 25, 1899. Polly the beloved wife of Joseph Hatfield, at the age 79 years, six months and twelve days.

Aunt Polly's maiden name was Heather; she was born in the state of Tennessee, April 12, 1820, and came to Missouri with her parents in the early day. She was married in 1836 to Joseph Hatfield, in Morgan county, who is left to mourn her untimely taking over. Eleven children wer born to this union nine of whom survive her. she had 49 grand children and 22 great-grand children and a host of friends who mourn her loss; and with due reverence to the aged husband who has lost a loving comapnion, and to her children who have lost a loving mother, we can but say that your loss is her eternal gain, as she has gone from labor to meet her reward.

In 1844 she joined the United Baptist church and has since that time lived a consistent Christian life. During her illness she often spoke of the beautiful light that none but her could see.

The funeral services were conducted by Rev. J.D. Avery after which the remains were laid to rest in the Fair View Cemetery on Thursday, October 26.
