COUNTY NATIVE KILLED BY CAR TUESDAY NIGHT
Mrs. Cora May Funk, 75, 471 South Fourth Street, Chambersburg, a native of Adams County, was killed Tuesday evening about 7:30 o'clock when she was struck by an automobile while crossing the Lincoln Highway about a half a mile east of Chambersburg.
Her death followed that of a brother, Reuben W. Slaybaugh, 80, Aspers, R. 1, by about nine hours, Mr Slaybaugh having died Tuesday at 10:45 a.m. from the effects of a series of paralytic strokes.
Mrs. Funk was struck by a car driven by Paul Newcomer, Jr., 17, Chambersburg, who told state police he did not see Ms. Funk until after the car had struck her. He estimated his speed at 35 miles per hour. Newcomer was released after questioning by police.
Born in Butler Township
The victim was crossing the high way to wait for a bus after receiving treatment from a nearby chiropractor. She was dressed in dark clothing at the time of the accident. Mrs. Funk was pronounce ded upon arrival by ambulance at the Chambersburg Hospital.
Mrs. Funk was born May 10, 1876, in Butler Township, a daughter of the late William and Rebecca (Hummer) Slaybaugh. She was member of the Bethel Pentecostal Church, Chambersburg. He husband. Jacob W. Funk, died some time ago.
Surviving are a daughter, Mrs. Walter J. Howland, Shippensburg and one brother, Albert Slaybaugh, Aspers.
Funeral services Saturday at 10:30 a.m. at the Barbour funeral Home, Chambersburg, conducted by the Rev. Alfred D. Boyd. Interment in Lincoln Cemetery. Chambersburg. Friends may call at the funeral home Friday evening from 7 to 9 o'clock. (T)
