Mary was the daughter of Dr. James D. Thompson. Though her life was relatively short, she was an important part of early East Point as she served as the city's first post mistress.

THOMPSON.--Miss Mary H. Thompson was born in Vanwert, Ga., Sept. 12, 1860, and died at East Point, Ga., Oct. 28, 1892. She was a graduate of the Chautauqua Literary and Scientific Circle,and a great reader. Although always afflicted, she was an active worker in and a liberal member of the Methodist Episcopal Church and Sunday school from her conversion in 1876. For years before her death she was postmistress at East Point. Her death was triumphant and happy.
