An Obituary from "Gatesville Messenger & Star Forum", Thursday, July 3, 1975:

Ray H. Byrom, vice president and cashier of the Guaranty Bank and Trust Co. and one of Gatesville's civic and church leaders, died at 3:33 p.m. Saturday in a Waco hospital. Mr. Byrom, 55, had been stricken with a heart attack a week earlier.
Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Monday at the First Presbyterian Church and were conducted by Rev. Ralph O'Dell, Rev. and John Knox Bowling. Burial was in the Restland Cemetery with Scott's in charge.
County courthouse offices and several local business firms were closed during the funeral hours.
Mr. Byrom first joined the Guaranty Bank staff in 1940 after receiving a degree in business administration from the University of Texas at Austin.
He served in the U. S. Army Air Corps for four years during World War II, returning to his work at the bank after the war. He was made the bank's cashier in 1948, became a member of its board of directors in 1958, and became a vice president in 1970.
Mr. Byrom was an elder in the First Presbyterian Church.
He had been secretary of the Gatesville Independent School District board of trustees for 14 years. He was a longtime leader in the Easter Seal Society here, and had served in various capacities in the local Red Cross chapter and the Gatesville Chamber of Commerce over the years.
After World War II, Mr. Byrom remained in the U. S. Air Force Reserve until retiring a few years ago with the rank of lieutenant colonel.
He was born in Coryell County Feb. 2, 1920, and lived in Gatesville most of his life. He married Miss Mildred Kirkpatrick on Dec. 22, 1946.
Surviving are his wife; one son, David Byrom, a Texas A. and M. University student; two daughters, Mrs. Ronald (Sue) Dixon and Mrs. Danny (Jan) Smith, both of Gatesville; his mother, Mrs. Claud R. Byrom of Gatesville; two brothers, John Frank Byrom of Austin and James M. Byrom of Grand Junction, Colo.; and one sister, Mrs. Henry Moss of Devine.
Pallbearers for Mr. Byrom's funeral were Gordon Smith, Ted Foote, Andrew Kendrick, Dr. O. W. Lowrey, Cloyce Duncan and Raymond Leonard.
Honorary pallbearers were other officers, deacons and elders of the First Presbyterian Church; officers and directors of the Guaranty Bank; and members of the Gatesville school board.
