Annie Yates was born in Madison Co. KY, the daughter of Martha Stewart and Joshua Yates in 1802. Joshua Yates was said to be a Primitive Baptist preacher by one source. The family moved to the Flat Creek area of southern Bedford Co. TN. She married Joseph Morton in about 1822. The couple had a number of children. She died in 1866 and was buried at the Greer (Sugar Creek) Cemetery in 1866 next to her husband. The graves have long tubular stones lying flat on the ground on the west side of the small cemetery which is at the northwest side of the junction of Dixon Rd. and Richmond Pike, south-southwest of Shelbyville. She has A.M. on her footstone and is buried next to her husband Joseph. One of her sons, William C. is my ancestor.
