My great great grandparents
William C. Morton was born probably in Bedford Co. Tenn in 1823. He married Eliza Jane Freeman (dau of Abner Freeman and possibly Luraney Underwood) of the Chestnut Ridge area on the Bedford/Lincoln Co. border area in Tennessee. William and Eliza Jane were married in 1842 in Lincoln Co. Tn and are in Red River Co. Texas by 1846. They are in the 1850 census for the same county. This couple later bought land in Fannin Co. south of Bonham near the present day Whiterock Cemetery in Fannin County. They had a large family and Eliza Jane passed away in 1879, and is buried in the Whiterock Cemetery. William married 2nd Malinda Wilson about three months after his first wife's death, and she lived until 1926. William C. Morton himself passed away in 1892 and is mentioned in his daughter Cynthia's diary. William is the son of Joseph Morton and Anna Yates Morton of Bedford Co. Tn. Joseph and Anna are buried in the Sugar Creek (Greer) Cemetery south-southwest of Shelbyville, Bedford Co. Tn. Joseph Morton, (son of John) lived from 1801-1865 and Anna,(1802-1866?) (dau of Joshua Yates and Martha Stewart), moved from Madison Co. Ky to Bedford Co. TN at a young age. I am related through his daughter Cynthia (Morton) Mitchell. She died in 1927, and her information may be accessed through Hale Co. TX in this website. Those whom are interested in more details can contact the following person
