Hundreds of friends and relatives gathered in the Methodist church of Wheeler Thursday afternoon to hear the last rites spoken for Tom Patten Morton of that city, who passed away at a Wheeler hospital Wednesday. The Rev. Edmund Kirby was in charge of the services.

Morton was born in Fannin county February 18, 1869, being 64 years, 6 months and 5 days of age at the time of his death. He was married to Martha Ann Gribble 40 years ago. They lived near Fort Worth for a while, moving from there to Fannin county. From Fannin county they moved to Wheeler county 31 years ago and settled near Mobeetie. They moved to Wheeler some 26 years ago, and it is said that he was the oldest resident of that city.

He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Martha Ann Morton, two daughters, Mrs. P.L. Ussery and Mrs. B.P. Benham of Oklahoma City, Okla., two sons-in-law, two grandchildren, Billie Fern and Betty Jo Ussery, and one brother, Jim Morton of Bridgeport.
