Berry is the son of Blackstone and Levina Stewart.

Severely wounded on the battlefield at Chiea Mauga Sept of 1863 on neck and hand.

In the May 28, 1901 Ashville Times, he is noted in the list of local Bakersville residents who suffered great loss due to a flood. Many lost everything. Writer notes " a large majority of the houses owned, were swept off by the flood, leaving nothing but a sand bar".
On May 30th, the loss of his home and all it's contents was confirmed by the Gastonia Gazette.
