Edgar's birth year is listed as 1876 on his marker. This is apparently because he lied about his age to join the Army when he was only 16 years old. Since this marker was provided by the government I believe they used the birth date off of his service records, which is wrong. There are multiple other records which corroborate his birth year as 1881.
