Funeral services will be held Monday, January 12, 2009 at 10 a.m. in Brookhaven Funeral Home Chapel in Brookhaven, Miss., for Lee Newell, 92, of Brookhaven who passed away Friday, January 9, 2009 at the V.A. Hospital in Jackson.Burial will follow at Mt. Zion Baptist Church Cemetery in Brookhaven.Mr. Newell was born on May 11, 1916 in Lincoln County to William Decatur Newell and Martha Newell Newell. He was a former Salesman, former member of the Lincoln County School Board and a member of the Mt. Zion Baptist Church. He served in the Army during WWII in the European Theatre operation and was a recipient of a Purple Heart and a Bronze Star. He was also a member the American Legion and V.F.W.Mr. Newell was preceded in death by: his parents; wife, Donis T. Newell; wife, Eloyce C. Newell; sister, Amye Montgomery; brothers, Marion Newell, Burton Newell and Rudolph Newell.Survivors include: daughter and son-in law, Linda N. and Rudy Smith of Brookhaven; son and daughter-in-law, Dale and Rhonda Newell of Carriere; two grandchildren, Andrew J. Smith of Brookhaven and Erin N. Newell of Carriere; and two sisters, Maebell Britt and Blanche Walker, both of Brookhaven.
