William Henry Lytle was a Confederate soldier who enlisted into the Confederate Army as a private out of Macon County, Georgia (Company C, 12th Georgia Infantry) on June 15, 1861. In June of 1862 he was wounded in the arm and was admitted to the Confederate States Army General Hospital in Charlottesville, Virginia. On November 1, 1863, he received a promotion to Sergeant. His service records note that William Lytle was present at the Battle of Lynchburg, which took place on June 17 and 18, 1864 in Lynchburg, Virginia. William Lytle was captured at Winchester, Virginia on September 19, 1865 – and was sent to the dreaded Yankee prison Point Lookout in Maryland. At the end of the war he was "exchanged" on March 15, 1865 and presumably headed for Texas. On 20 Aug. 1878, William Henry Lytle married Lucinda Curbow in McLennan County, Texas. He lived the rest of his life in Waco, McLennan County, Texas. William Henry Lytle was the father of Belle Sarah Lytle and William Henry Lytle.

WACO SEMI-WEEKLY TRIBUNE, SATURDAY, OCTOBER 28, 1905: LYTLE - Died, at the residence in East Waco, Wednesday morning , October 25, William Henry Lytle, aged 65 years. The funeral occurred October 26, with interment at Greenwood Cemetery.
