Chapin - Fred Lindler, son of the late Preston B. and Lola Monts Lindler, was born near Chapin, July 8, 1914. He graduated from Chapin High School, and he continued his education and interest in music at Newberry College, earning an AB Degree in mathematics and natural science. After graduating from Newberry, his career took him to Washington, D.C. While attending a performance there, he was inspired by the performance of a particular pianist. This eventually led him to also study and perform in New York. He studied at the N.Y. College of Music of New York University, where he was chosen to sing with the American Chorus in Europe. Mr. Lindler attained a masters degree from Auburn. Additional studies were done at Clemson University, Wake Forest University and George Washington University.
