Edna Chestnutt Lockfaw, age 91, of Wilmington, NC was called from her home to be with her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on Monday, January 4, 2010.

Edna was born in Magnolia, NC on October 16, 1918 to the late Cecil and Effie Chestnutt. Edna graduated Magnolia High School and went on to graduate as a Registered Nurse from the James Walker School of Nursing in Wilmington in 1941. After graduation from the School of Nursing, Edna joined James Walker Memorial Hospital as a RN and in 1964 became part of the nursing staff at New Hanover Regional Medical Center. Edna retired from her Nursing Career in 1984.

Edna was predeceased by John I. Lockfaw, Sr., her husband of 56 years, in 1997. Edna is survived by her daughter Mary Edna Lockfaw, sons, Merrill G. Lockfaw (Beth), John I. Lockfaw (Thomasina), two grandchildren, Jennifer Lockfaw Nichols and Christina Marie Lockfaw and two great grandchildren all of Wilmington. Edna is also survived by her brothers Ray Chestnutt of Wilmington, Howard Chestnutt of Raleigh, her sister Elizabeth Chestnutt Baker of Kinston, NC, and many nieces and nephews.

Edna lived by the Golden Rule and the 23rd Psalm and the Lord's Prayer are among Edna's favorite prayers. Edna was a dedicated member of Long Leaf Baptist Church where she enjoyed the fellowship of Sunday School.

Edna will be fondly remembered for being dedicated to her church, being a loving and caring parent, a compassionate and professional care giver, a source of good old common sense and good advice. Her smile and terrific sense of humor is cherished by her family and friends.

A graveside funeral service will be held at 11 AM Saturday, January 9, 2009 at Oleander Memorial Gardens with Pastor Eugene Ridley of Long Leaf Baptist Church officiating.
