Ray Chestnutt, 88, left his Wilmington home on February 18, 2016 for a heavenly family reunion. Those waiting to welcome him were his parents, Cecil and Effie, his beloved wife Emily, brothers Elbert, Norwood, Davis and Howard, and sisters Edna Lockfaw and Catherine Perdue. He was born January 16, 1928 in Magnolia, North Carolina. After serving in the Navy, he moved to Wilmington where he was a barber for many years before joining General Electric in 1972 and retiring in 1993. Those left to cherish his memory are his loving wife of 26 years, Frances C. Chandler Chestnutt, his son Michael and his wife Marilyn, daughter Myra Rochelle and her husband David, beloved grandson Evan Rochelle, sister Elizabeth Baker of Kinston, and step-sons Billy and Michael Chandler. He is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews whom he deeply loved. He was a member of Southside Baptist Church. Ray was a genuine man who cared deeply for his family and friends. A private graveside service will be held at a later date. Memorials may be made to Lower Cape Fear Hospice or the charity of one's choice.
