Lena Wanita Spears was born on August 31, 1914 in Skedee, Oklahoma to Grover Funkhouser and Lena Moore Funkhouser. She passed from this life on Wednesday, December 9,2009 in Blackburn, Oklahoma, having reached the age of 95 years, 3 months, and 8 days.
She married Roy C. Spears on April 23, 1938 in Skedee, Oklahoma, and he preceded her in death on May 26, 1996. She moved to Blackburn from the Skedee area in 1946 and was a charter member of the First Baptist Church of Blackburn. She was a homemaker, serving her family well. She sewed and made quilts until a year and a half ago.
Lena is survived by: 2 daughters: Joye Spears, Blackburn, Oklahoma; Barbara Kerr and her husband, Fred, Greenville, California; a son, Sammy Spears and his wife, Donna, Blackburn, Oklahoma; 2 grandsons, Trenton and Aaron Spears, Blackburn, Oklahoma; granddaughter, Ashley Kerr, Greenville, California; plus a number of other relatives, and many friends.
Besides her husband, Roy, she was preceded in death by her parents, Grover and Lena Funkhouser, two sisters, Goldie Nelson and Alene Callison, and her brother, Alvin Funkhouser.
Services were held Saturday, December 12,2009 at the First Baptist Church, Blackburn, Oklahoma with Rev. Allison Dickey and Rev. Dale Gowdy officiating. Interment was at Blackburn Cemetery, Blackburn, Oklahoma, under the direction of Poteet Funeral Home, Pawnee, Oklahoma.
