Vera L. Cummins
Aug. 8, 1926-Dec. 16, 2009

Vera Louise (Segraves) Cummins, a saint and servant of God, went home to be with her Lord on Wednesday evening, Dec. 16, 2009. She resided at Regency Place of Fort Wayne for the past seven years.

Vera was a native of Muncie, Ind., born Aug. 8, 1926 at Ball Memorial Hospital to Herschel and Lena (Johnson) Segraves.

She lived her early years in Muncie. She spent many months over several years in and out of Riley Children's Hospital in Indianapolis for a leg ailment and yet made many good memories there. She graduated from Muncie Central High School and in a few short years, married and started a family. Family career changes took Vera from Muncie to South Bend to La Porte and finally to Fort Wayne, leaving loving lifelong memories all along the way. Vera has always been a servant of others, especially through church ministries. She was a low alto singer in duets and trios. She taught Sunday school in every church she attended and spent the last 25 years of her active life in nursing home ministry, including at Regency Place, before retiring there herself.

Preceding Vera in death were her father and mother, Herschel and Lena (Johnson) Segraves, brother, Donald Segraves, all of Muncie, sister, Sara Martin of Jonesville, Mich.

She is survived by her brother, Fred Segraves and sisters, Lorena Brookbank, Phyllis Bousman, all of Muncie, and Mary Ann Briner of Celina, Ohio. Also surviving are sons, Phillip Cummins, Richard Cummins, both of Fort Wayne, Ind., and Gary Cummins of Greenwood, Ind.; six grandchildren, Joshua, Michael, Gary, Sam, Caleb and Barick and numerous great-grandchildren.

Memorials can be made to Vera Cummins Memorial at Regency Place of Fort Wayne, 6006 Brandy Chase Cove, Fort Wayne, IN 46815. In Vera's words: "the greatest thing of all is the assurance that I will someday see Jesus face to face and will hear Him say, ‘well done thou good and faithful servant, thou hast been faithful, enter thou into the joy of the LORD". Well done mom.

A funeral service will be at First Assembly of God, 1400 W. Washington Center Rd., Fort Wayne on Monday at 11 a.m. EDT with visitation one hour prior. Visitation will also be on Sunday from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. EDT at Sloans and Son Funeral Home, 1327 N. Wells St., Fort Wayne. Burial will be in Highland Park Cemetery, Fort Wayne.
