Mary R. Stevenson was the second of ten known children of Judge James Hall Stevenson (1803-1886) and Emily Clement Janes (1817-1899), who married Christmas Day (25 Dec) 1833 at Hot Springs, Hot Springs County, Arkansas.
Mary married Robert Newton Caldwell (1832-1910) on 26 Nov 1857 at Lamar County, Texas. Mary and Robert were the parents of four known children, namely:
1. Sarah Jane Caldwell Quillen (1862-1921)
2. Robert Calvin Caldwell (1865-1936)
3. Agnes L. Caldwell Johnson (1874-1959)
4. John H. Caldwell (1879-a1892)
