Salem, NY-Gilbert H. Flint, 91, of Salem, passed away peacefully Wednesday night, December 16, 2009 at Pleasant Valley in Argyle. Born August 14, 1918 in Amenia, NY, he was the son of the late Gilbert A. and Wilhelmina (Werder) Flint. Mr. Flint graduated from Amenia High School and was also a 1940 graduate of Cornell University where he received a BS degree. He received his Masters in Administration from S.U.N.Y. Albany. He served his country with the U.S. Army as a Sargeant during WW II and spent a year in Japan as an Agricultural Advisor. Gilbert was an Agriculture Teacher at Salem Washington Academy from 1946 until 1963 and then became the High School Principal and retired in 1975 as the school Superintendent after 29 years of service. Gilbert was a 50 year member of the West Hebron United Presbyterian Church where he served as an Elder. He enjoyed gardening, spending time with his family, genealogy, reading, and traveling.

Gilbert is survived by his wife of 60 years, Florence Winfield Flint; his children, Keith Gilbert Flint and his wife Patricia, Chatham, NY, Ruth Flint Frew of Jacksonville, FL, George H. Flint and his wife Darlene of Hebron, Carl R. Flint of Cambridge, James C. Flint and his wife Barbara of Burlington, VT and Nancy Flint-Budde and her husband Allen of Shushan. He is also survived by a sister, Martha Schullery of Thomasville, NC; 2 brothers, Philip Flint of Pompano Beach, FL and John Flint of Dutchess County, NY; 1 cousin, Margarette Dillinger, of Poughkeepsie, NY as well as 21 grandchildren, 18 great grandchildren and 2 great great grandchildren. In addition to his parents, Mr. Flint was also pre-deceased by an infant daughter, Faith Mary Flint and a sister, Catherine Leigh and 2 aunts, Dorothy and Julia Flint.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 am on Monday, December 21, 2009 at the West Hebron United Presbyterian Church, 3157 County Route 30, West Hebron with Rev. Robert Rose officiating. Interment with military honors will take place at Evergreen Cemetery in Salem. Gilbert's grandsons will serve as pallbearers. Relatives and friends are invited to attend and may call Sunday from 2-4 & 6-8 pm at the McClellan-Gariepy Funeral Home, 19 East Broadway, Salem.
