LEONARD WALTERS DEAD

Leonard Walters, a resident of this county since 1878, died at his home in Kingman Monday September 18th, aged 65 years. Funeral services were held at Cleveland on Wednesday and burial was in the Cleveland cemetery.

Mr. Walters was born in Bartholomew county Indiana in 1857, the son of a farmer and after receiving a practical education in the district schools of Indiana he took up farming as a vocation. In 1878 Mr. Walters was married to Miss Jessie Day of Jasper county, Indiana, a sister to John Day of this city, and they came to Kingman county and settled on a claim of 160 acres in the Osage tract in Richland township. Mrs. Walters died April 18, 1894, at the age of 34 years, leaving three children, Clyde W., Orth and Ralph. Mr. Walters was married again in March 1901 to Mrs. I. A. Dehority, widow of George W. Dehority of Belmont township. A few years ago Mr. and Mrs. Walters moved to Kingman to make this their home, and she died here two years ago last July.

Mr. Walters took a deep interest in the advancement of his community. He was an efficient farmer, well read and posted on all current topics of interest. At the time of his death he owned the old homestead and leased it to Charles Pinkerton for this year. During the past year, in fact ever since his wife died, Mr. Walters has been in failing health. For several months he has been confined to his home and to his bed. His son Orth Walters and family, who moved to Eads, Colorado last spring returned here this summer to live with him and assist in caring for him during his illness. His other sons, Clyde and Ralph and their families live in this county, Clyde and family living south of Kingman and Ralph and family near Cheney.
