Mary Elizabeth Studebaker, [SFNA# H382-1] born June 19, 1901, Indianapolis, Indiana, daughter of Franklin Leonard Studebaker and Julia Nelson Studebaker moved to Muncie, Indiana where brother Thomas Nelson Studebaker was born Jan. 4, 1903. Soon after [the family moved] to Kokomo, Indiana where schooling took place and graduation from Kokomo high school in 1921. [That year] she served as Secretary of the FIRST Studebaker National Reunion ... in Flora, [Carroll county] Indiana....

After library training, she held administrative posts in public library systems of Indiana, Michigan and Florida; In Orlando, Florida [she] wrote a book review column in the evening paper. Attended Indiana University and has lived in Cleveland, Cincinnati, Youngstown and Dayton, Ohio; Chicago, Ill.; Detroit, Michigan; Milwaukee, Wisc. and Tucson, Arizona. Has visited Canada, Mexico--and California!

After a brief marriage [21 Dec 1928] in Depression years , prefers use of own family name. She has written articles on civic betterment, handicapped children and club activity. Many years a legal secretary, she was National Director in Indiana for National Association of Legal Secretaries. Member Indiana University Women's Club, Indianapolis Legal Secretaries Assoc., Indiana Historical Society and is vice-president of Federation of International Travel-Study Clubs, Inc. Employed in Indiana Historical Society Library.

A daughter, Julia, married movie producer ... Alexander Fulcher von Grasshoff V, in California. Julia is a speech therapist."

NOTE: Following her brief marriage to Mr. Leonce "Lee" Montville MARION, Mary Elizabeth Studebaker preferred to use her maiden name (STUDEBAKER). However, she still referenced her marital name (MARION) which continues to cause some confusion regarding the correct names of both her and daughter Julia.
