John Paul Chandler, B3, 102 ½ W. Walnut Street died in his sleep early Friday morning in the home of his daughter in Clinton, Wis.
Born in Kokomo, Dec. 19, 1887, he was the son of Arthur and Margaret (piper) Chandler. On Sept. 30, 1915 he married Lena Smith who survives.
He was a graduate of Kokomo High School, class of 1906, managing editor of the Evening News at Sault Saint Marie, Mich., where he started work in 1917 and retired in 1957. He was a member of the Central Board Methodist Church, Sault Saint Marie, the country club, charter member of the Kiwanis Club, past president of the Sault Saint Marie Club and Lt. Governor of the Kiwanis Club. He was also the chairman of the Children's Orphan Home in Sault Saint Marie for 20 years. He moved back to Kokomo in 1957.
Surviving with the widow is a daughter, Mrs. Russell (Ruth) Tomlinson, Clinton, Wis and five grandchildren. One son, Senator Paul M. Chandler, died in 1964.
Graveside services will be at 11 a,m, Tuesday in Crown Point Cemetery with the Rev. Russell Tomlinson officiating. Friends may call at the Jacobs Funeral Home from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. Monday.
