Alva D. Shady, age 70, of Maquoketa, Iowa, died on Wednesday, October 3, 2007, at the Genesis Medical Center, West Campus, in Davenport, Iowa.

A celebration of his life will be held at 3 P.M., Monday, October 8, 2007, from the Carson & Son Funeral And Cremation Services in Maquoketa, Iowa, with Chaplain/Celebrant Rev. Ruth Ann Scott of Carson & Son Funeral And Cremation Services in Maquoketa officiating. Visitation will be held from 1 to 3 P.M. on Monday, October 8, 2007, from the Carson & Son Funeral And Cremation Services in Maquoketa, Iowa. Burial will be in the East Iron Hill Cemetery, rural Maquoketa, Iowa, where full military rites will be conducted by the Maquoketa American Legion Post #75, Maquoketa VFW Post #3633 O'Connor-Regenwether and the Andrew AMVETS Post #62.

Alva D. Shady was born on March 16, 1937 in Wyoming, Iowa, to Clifford A. Shady and Sibyl J. (Carpenter) Shady. He was educated in Elwood schools. He was a U.S. Army veteran of the Korean Conflict. He married Patricia Anne Bartley on April 30, 1959 in Tacoma, Washington. She preceded him in death on May 25, 1994.

Alva had worked as a trucker, first for Allied Van Lines from 1972 to 1978, and then for AMHOF trucking in Eldridge, Iowa, from 1978 to 2005, retiring due to ill health.

Alva was a member of the First Baptist Church in Maquoketa, Iowa. He enjoyed fishing, playing cards- especially Rummy, and spending time with family and friends. He really loved watching and following the Hawkeyes, Cubs and the Green Bay Packers. He was known by his family as a man who loved to drive his truck and someone who loved going for rides in the country.

Alva is survived by: children- David Shady of Maquoketa, IA, Sue (John) Searle of Davenport, IA, Terry Shady of Davenport, IA, & Cliff Shady of Davenport, IA; a special companinon of 12 years- Stacey Linden of Maquoketa, IA; brothers- Irvin Wallroff of Maquoketa, IA, & Vurt (Deb) Wallroff of Maquoketa, IA; sisters- Marilyn (Bill) Earles of Maquoketa, IA, Patty (Nick) Peiffer of Minonka, IL, Carole Dodds of Maquoketa, IA, Rose (Lyle) Rowan of Maquoketa, IA, & Verna (Steve) Flagel of Maquoketa, IA; 4 grandchildren, 2 great-grandchildren; & numerous nieces & nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents & his wife.
