FAMILY MEMORIES
When Celia was small, they lived on the Chouinard farm by the Bobendriers and Lefebvres. Grandpa had to walk them to school because there were Indians living around them.

Celia was a member of St. Andrew's Catholic Church and was involved with the Christian Mother's Society.

When Grandpa Fisette was elderly, he came to live with the Demars family for a couple years. When Grandpa and caught a big turtle, she made delicious turtle stew fried in butter for him.

She crocheted many things, played piano for the dances in their house when they were younger. Eddie remembers her playing good chord-ing music by ear. Also, she had a large garden to tend every year Her prize was the strawberry patch. She also did a lot of sewing and was a fantastic cook.

She baked 16 loaves of bread every Saturday. Also on Saturdays, the boys stayed out of the house as the girls were doing permanents that smelled up the place (the brother's memory).

During the late 1950's, I used to go there for weekend visits while in High School in St. Michael, MN. Dick and I were only a year apart. She was so nice to talk with, listened and talked with me a lot. (Barb's memory)

In retirement, Celia lived many years in Elk River after moving from the family farm. She especially loved sewing and crocheting, playing cards and visiting with the weekly or monthly Cousins Card Group. Sometime later, the neices joined in and it was kept going until, I do not know!

She had 96 first cousins on her mother's side and they got together a lot, laughed, played cards, and had great desserts. Celia was a great cook, gentle, cheerful and remembered everything and everyone.

In the nursing home, Celia's doctor wanted her to get her hip/s replaced. She said, "I hear they only last 10 years!" She must have bee about 85 or so then.

Once, in Guardian Angels Nursing Home, Elk River, MN, when left alone in the bathroom too long, she called 911 to get someone to help her. They called the nursing home to see what the problem was. Boy, did the staff shape up after that. Later, I heard she did that more than once.

Celia was 96 when she died and still playing cards every Monday with Lou Lefebvre who said things would not be as good now with her gone.
