Funeral services for Bert Jessie "B.J." Ross, 84, were held at 3 p.m. December 13, 2009 at Crystal Springs Baptist Church in Anacoco the Rev. Shelton Sigler officiated. Burial followed at Mitchell Cemetery in Anacoco. Mr. Ross passed away on December 11, 2009 at his residence in DeRidder. B.J. was a member of the 82nd Airborne in the United States Army. He saw action in Luzon, New Guinea, was there for the liberation of the Philippines and participated in two major battles in South Korea. B.J. was a member of the Missionary Baptist Church of DeRidder. He loved his God, his family, gardening and raising and selling vegetables. Survivors are his wife, Wanda Sue Campbell Ross of DeRidder; daughters, Deloris Jessie Ross Hall of Sebastian, FL and Kathy Lee Ross of Seminole, FL; step-sons, Bobby Lawson Sipes of Fayetteville, TN, Sidney Lee Sipes and wife Patty of Newton, TX, John Roger Self and wife Amber of Ballinger, TX, Benjamin Delbert Self of Livingston, TX; step-daughter Sheree' Self Schriver of Sturgis, SD; one grandson, Harrison Hall; 15 step-grandchildren and 18 step-great grandchildren. B.J. was preceded in death by his parents, Wiley and Florence Ross; brothers, A.J. Ross, E.J. Ross, M.L. Ross and W.A. Ross and sisters, Mattie Mae Fairley, Mittie Vee Brock and Genevieve Bailey.
