John H. Millspaugh
A Prominent Artist Dies in This City Last Night
John H. Millspaugh of Ithaca died suddenly yesterday evening at 8 o'clock at the residence of his daughter, Mrs. James H. Dumars of West Water street, where he had been visiting for a few days after returning from a winter spent in Denver. Mr. Millspaugh was born seventy-two years ago in Orange county, this state. He subsequently removed to Ithaca, where he married Marion E. Cornell, a niece of the late Ezra Cornell. Developing a taste and skill for painting, he later on proved himself a finished artist, as his work in Cornell University shows. Removing to New York city, a wider field opened for his art, and as an etcher he became prominent. Mr. Millspaugh was appointed to a position in the Custom House during Grant's administration, and held his position about sixteen years. His later years have been devoted to his art. Brief funeral services will be held at the residence of J.H. Dumar, 733 West Water street to-morrow afternoon at 3 o'clock. The interment will be in Ithaca.
