1885 Census shows her name spelled Elma (age 9), living with mother, Nancy Ulrey (age 38) and sister, Cora (age 12). 1900 Census with husband Charles & 4 daughters, show her name as Alma and family tradition is, she was called Alma. Note how young she was when she had her first child. She and Charles took off to Oregon for a couple of years to hide the age issue and the name change may have occurred as a part of that. The headstone may have been Charles' attempt to set the record straight. He really did adore her and never remarried after she died at a very young age (33).
