Edward came to America with his parents some time between 10 April 1830 and 23 December 1832. The Milners settled for a short while in New York before moving to Cuyahoga County, Ohio and finally settling in Benton, Elkhart, Indiana.

Edward married Anna in Cuyahoga County, Ohio on 16 March 1854 despite the objections of her father. They had a total of 8 Children, the older two being born in Ohio and the remainder in Elkhart County, Indiana.

Edward was a farmer and died of pulmonary tuberculosis in 1885 shortly after returning home from the World's Fair in New Orleans.
