Ettie Elizabeth Ayer, the daughter of James and Susan Ayer, was born near Lancaster, Mo., February 25, 1879 and departed this life at her home in Downing Mo., April 20, 1939 at the age of 60 years, 1 month and 26 days. She grew to womanhood in the Pin Oak vicinity.

On December 31, 1902, she was united in marriage to Purley A. Ballew. To this union seven children were born: Charles of Downing, Mo.; Ferne Cowperthwaite of Bethany, Mo.; Florence Bragg of Glenwood, Mo.; James Ballew and Helen Brown of Blairsburg, Iowa; Keith of Salem, Oregon and George of the home. All of whom were at her bedside during her last illness except Keith.

Besides her husband and children she leaves four grand children, Edward and Martha Ballew; Irene and Leon Bragg who were very dear to her. Also seven brothers, James R. Ayer, Lancaster, Mo.; Manley Ayer, Bloomfield, Iowa; Sam Ayer, Leonard Mo.; Hurley and Carl Ayer, Downing Mo.; Bartlett Ayer, Lancaster, Mo. Two sisters, Mrs. Ina Andrews, Lancaster, Mo.; and Mrs. Theodosia Harryman, Douds, Iowa. Several nieces and nephews and a host of friends.

Funeral services were conducted at the Fabius church, Saturday, April 22, 1939. Her two grand daughters acted as flower girls and nephews were her pallbearers.

Services were conducted by the Rev. Luther Childs of Centerville, Iowa, and interment was in the Fabius cemetery close by.
