She was born June 22, 1924 in Colchester, IL, the daughter of the late Charles and Bessie (Hunter) Stump. She married Virgil Derry and they later divorced. She later married Melvin Johnson on Jan. 1, 1949 in Macomb, IL, and he preceded her in death in 1998.
Mrs. Johnson worked as a waitress and was also a homemaker. She was a member of Christian Church in Colchester, IL
She is survived by 2 daughters, Karen Thompson of Tampa, FL, and Tonna (husband Tim) Kloeden of Riverton, IL, 10 grandchildren, Marsha, Robin, Jeff, Greg, and Randy Derry, Ken and Laura Kessler, and Kaitlynn, Johnathan, and Christian Kloeden, several great-grandchildren and 1 great-great-grandchild. She is also survived by 4 sisters, Shirley Friday, Doris Blivens, Norma Snowman, and Donna Dorton, and a brother, Charles Stump. Several nieces, nephews and cousins also survive.
Besides her parents and her husband Melvin, she was preceded in death by 2 sons, Robert Derry and Terry Johnson, a daughter Tammy Johnson-Zink, and 3 sisters, Betty Maxine, Lois, and Hazel.
Services are under the direction of Bisch and Son Funeral Home, 505 E. Allen, Springfield where memorial services will be held Monday, December 14, 2009 at 12:30 pm. Visitation will be held from 11:30 am until time of the memorial service at 12:30 pm. Remains were cremated. Inurnment will be at Camp Butler National Cemetery, Springfield.
