NOTE: Birth year on stone is incorrect and the correct birth date above has been proven by the divorce documents of his parents and his death certificate.
Married to Rebecca J. Bradley on August 21, 1874 in Dubois County. They were the parents of Sarah Cassinda (birth father not proven), Albert, Sampson, Gilbert, Andrew Chester, Ida Katherine, Dora, Charles Grover and possibly Thomas Abell, Jr.
After his wife died, Thomas married Sarah E. Ingle on August 18, 1894 in Dubois County.
He was stepfather to Sarah's two children, Gertrude Rose and an unknown Sinclair baby. Thomas and Sarah were the parents of Jesse, Margaret L., Alvin Thomas, Lola Pearl, Gladys Lela, Permelia Ella and Herman Charles (who went by the name Charles H. Abelle).
Death notice in Indianapolis newspaper dated 8 Mar 1932; age 77
Undertaker George _____________
daughter remembers body being transported by train from Indianapolis to Birdseye.
cause of death: coronary Thombrosis, chronic nephritis.
It is interesting to note that on the death certificate, the informant was Alvin Abell who was Sarah Ingle's son, yet he claims Thomas' wife is Rebecca.
Thomas is buried with his first wife Rebecca. His wife, Sarah, is buried in Taylor Cemetery with her family. There may have been another wife in between Rebecca and Sarah but this has not been proven. HOWEVER, if you read the marriage affidavit, Thomas claims to have been married twice before his marriage to Sarah. The marriage affidavit for son Thomas gives the name of his mother as Mary J. Bradley, and there is an obituary for a Mary J Bradley.
