"Mrs. Lavina Booe Corey, 98, died at the home of her son, Earl Corey, northeast of Covington, about noon Saturday from complications resulting from a broken hip received several weeks ago.

Mrs. Corey was a native of Fountain county, Indiana, and is survived by four sons, Earl Corey, David Corey, Wesley Corey and Daniel Corey, and four daughters, Mrs. Harry Swarner, of St. Louis, Mo., Mrs Josephine Hawkins, of Alton, Ill., and Mrs. Daisy Rector and Mrs. Elizabeth Ashenhurst, both of Chicago, Ill.

The body was removed to the Crumley Funeral Home at Covington Saturday where it remained until Monday when it was taken to the church at Fountain where funeral services were held at 2 o'clock. Rev. Charles E. Howard, of Veedersburg had charge, with burial at Fountain cemetery." - Unknown Newspaper, July 27, 1934 (Obituary provided by Russ Nixon)

Lavinia's grave marker gives her birth year as 1838. This would have made her mother 11 years old when she was born. It would also have made Lavina 56 years old when her son, Daniel, was born. For some reason, it seems that Lavina and Silas were trying to disguise her true age, or famiy members who commissioned the stone were in error. Other sources give her birth year as 1851.
