Susan was a child of George and Priscila (Gregg) Hixson. Susan was a deaf / mute. Susan may have been the daughter who died at the School for the Deaf. There is confusion as to actual date of death and burial.
Information found by Marene Clark Mattern (Historian for the Illinois School for the Deaf Assoc.) shows that Susan was signed into the school by her brother, Joseph Warren Hixson and that she contracted Typhoid Fever there and passed away on February 6, 1871. She was transported home to Yorktown and buried there.
Other information at the school actually shows her passing away on February 23, 1887.
Susan is buried next to her parents, George and Priscila Hixson and her brother Hamilton G. Hixson.
