John Clos enlisted as a private in Co H, 2nd New Jersey Cavalry on Sep 19 1864, mustered out on Jul 08 1865 at Trenton, NJ. Clos became a painter right after the civil war. In 1866, he was appointed to the Jersey City Police Department and was promoted to Detective June 1873.
