Clair "Sam" Marx, 81, Sterling, passed away on December 2, 2009 in Holladay, Utah after a battle with Alzheimer's Disease.

He was born February 26, 1928 in Sterling to Jacob Clyde and Leah Schlapper Marx.

He married Dorothy Sorensen on July 29, 1959 in Richfield. She preceded him in death on August 7, 1999.

We rejoice for Uncle Sam who has waited a lifetime to be reunited with his son Randy who died in 1968. Sam was a dairy farmer all his life. He loved the animals, tractors and working the farm.

He served his country in Germany and was a rifleman in the US Army, 1st Infantry during World War II in Berlin, also known as the "Bloody 1". He shared stories of how the soldiers were able to show love and compassion to the people of Berlin even in the midst of the war. He wasn't a man for pompt and circumstance but had a great sense of humor. He would help anyone in need.

Clair is survived by his sisters: Una Swenson, Lavern Larsen, and Joy Heath, many neices and nephews. Preceded in death by his parents; wife; son, Randy Marx; brothers and sisters: Vonetta Swanson, Clint Marx, Levar Marx, Jerald Marx, Rita Curtis, and Reva Marx.

Funeral Services will be held on Tuesday, December 8, 2009 at 11:00 a.m. in the Sterling Ward Chapel. Friends may call at the Ward Chapel from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m.
Burial will be in the Manti City Cemetery with full military rites accorded by the Manti American Legion Post #31.
