Richard Valgene Shelton, 84, of Kinta, died Dec. 4, 2009 in Stigler. He was born July 17, 1925 in Kinta to Raleigh and Bertha (Watkins) Shelton. He was married to Daphine Walton. He owned and operated the Mint Club in Stockton, CA for many years and worked for Tri-Valley Cannery until his retirement. He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II. He is survived by his wife, Daphine, of the home; one daughter, Carol Esposeto, of Stockton; one son, Richard Shelton of Kinta; four sisters, Lillian Etter and husband, Frank of Greenwood, AR, Jewel Dean McCutcheon of Omaha, NE, Shirley Byrum of Kinta and Sharon Pearce and husband Don of Coweta; five brothers, Merl Shelton of Lodi, CA, Robert (Bob) Shelton and wife, Mary of Quinton, Joe Ray Shelton and wife Sherry of Oklahoma City, Bill Shelton of Poteau and Tommy J. Shelton of Kinta; three grandchildren, Lisa McCoy of Stockton, Tom Richmond of Kamuela, HI, and Mark Richmond of Stockton; five great-grandchildren, Trelin McCoy, Devon Richmond, Finn Richmond, Riley Richmond and Ryan Richmond. He was preceded in death by his parents, Raleigh and Bertha (Watkins) Shelton; four brothers, Leroy (Bud) Shelton, Jack Shelton, R.E. Shelton and Albert Shelton; three sisters, Gladys Robinson, Anna Doris Hart and Betty Shambliam; children, Perry, Winfred, Jessie, J., Hazel and Tanze F. Shelton; and step-mother, Vera (Jennings) Shelton. Funeral service was held Dec. 8 at Mallory Chapel, Stigler. Burial followed in Sans Bois Cemetery under the direction of Mallory-Martin Funeral Home & Crematory. Pallbearers were Mark Richmond, Tom Richmond, Bob Shelton, Tom Shelton, Bill Shelton and Richard Shelton.
