~0bit~Walker News-August 1914-Uriah Jennings Troy Mills Pioneer Passes away Friday, July 31, at Home of Daughter at Murray, Iowa. Uriah Jennings, a well known veteran of the Civil War who had resided in this vicinity of Troy Mills for many years, passed away last Friday at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Susan Wolf, at Murray, Iowa, where he had gone for a visit with his children. Mr. Jennings settled in Buchanan County immediately after the close of the Civil War, in which he did honorable service, and later crossed the line into Linn County, settling at Troy Mills, where he had resided for many years. He was a veterinary surgeon and had a successful practice covering a wide territory. The remains were brought back to the old home for burial, funeral services being held Sunday afternoon from the M.E. Church at Troy Mills, Rev. G. G. Bootem, of Walker, preaching the sermon. His old comrades attended in a body and six members of the G.A.R. served as pall bearers. Mr. Jennings was born in Charleston, Mercer County, Pennsylvania, March 3, 1847, and departed life July 31, 1914 aged 68 years, 4 months and 28 days. He came to Jackson County, Iowa, when 8 years of age. At the breaking out of the Civil War he enlisted in the second Iowa Cavalry under Captain Fosher and served three years and until the close of the war, when he was honorably discharged. After the war he came to Buchanan County and then to Linn County, where he made the acquaintance of Mary Amanda Ramsey, whom he married september 9, 1867. To this union five children, three daughters and two sons-Mrs. Susan Wolf, Lavisa Arnett and Frank, who were with him in his last illness, and Ira C. and Rena B. Moody deceased. He leaves to mourn his death, his wife, two daughters, one son, four grandchildren, two sisters, one brother residing in Pennsylvania, one brother in North Dakota, and one sister in Omaha. The latter of whom was at his bedside at death and attended the last service. He leaves besides many friends. In his going there passes a kind, loving husband and father, a generous friend, and one more old soldier has answered the final muster call.
