Elva J. Blevins, 85, Jeffersonville, formerly of Hardinsburg, died Wednesday, Nov. 18, 2009, at 11:55 p.m. at Lincoln Hill Healthcare.
Born Sept. 6, 1924, in Clark County, she was the daughter of the late Herbert and Ruby Spellman Schwinger.
She was a former aide for West Washington schools, a former employee of the old Hardinsburg bank, a former director of Washington County CETA and a member of Hardinsburg Christian Church, Hardinsburg Senior Citizens and Floyd County Homemakers.
Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Carl Blevins, in 1998; two sisters, Margaret Mobley and Sharon Booker; a grandson; and a great-grandson.
Survivors include five sons, Charles M. Blevins of Hardinsburg, Joseph E. Blevins of New Albany, William G. Blevins of Jeffersonville, James D. Blevins of Sellersburg and Craig Blevins of Hampton Bays, N.Y.; two daughters, Julia Ann Chesson of Bath, N.C., and Nancy Sue Blevins of Kokomo; 12 grandchildren; and 19 great-grandchildren.
Visitation: Sunday, Nov. 22, from 4 to 7 p.m. at Weathers Funeral Home in Salem and Monday, Nov. 23, after 9 a.m. at Hardinsburg Christian Church.
Funeral: Monday, Nov. 23, at 10 a.m. at the church with burial in Hardinsburg Cemetery.
Officiant: The Rev. Nancy Blevins.
