Novalene L. Atwood, 94, of Paint Rock passed away Thursday, October 8, 2009 at Ballinger Healthcare and Rehabilitation Center.
She was born August 20, 1915 in McCulloch County, Texas to Isacc and Minnie (Peel) Hallmark. She had lived in the Paint Rock area since 1931 and married Dudley Atwood in 1936 in Paint Rock. He preceded her in death on May 5, 1971, and she passed away on his birthday. She was a member of the Baptist Church and a homemaker who was devoted to her family and considered to be "quite a cook." She enjoyed sewing and working in her flower garden and was a great fan of the Dallas Cowboys.

She was preceded in death by her parents and husband; sisters, Mae Koeing and her husband, Ralph, Gladys Patton and her husband, Curtis, and Claudine Feelers and her husband, Bracy; sister-in-law, Dorothy Hallmark; and brother-in-law, Eugene Baker.

Novalene is survived by her sons, Delton Atwood and wife, Florine, of Paint Rock, and Alton Atwood of Arlington.; brothers, Daniel Hallmark and wife, Nancy, Herman Hallmark and wife, Margaret, and Clarence Hallmark all of Ballinger; sisters, Mildred Hallmark and Wilma Baker of Ballinger, Billie Holland and husband, Raymond of San Angelo. Also surviving are grandchildren, Scott Atwood, Samantha Atwood and husband, Alan Fuchs, Jeylan Atwood, Dewayne Atwood, C. J. Atwood Hood; three great-grandchildren, Mathew Atwood, Jorey Hood, and Devin Hood; numerous nieces and nephews; and a special friend and caregiver, Mary Urteaga of Eola.

Visitation for family and friends will be Sunday, October 11 from 6:00 to 7:00 p.m. at Lange Funeral Home in Ballinger. Funeral services will be Monday, October 12 at 2:00 p.m. at Lange Funeral Home Chapel with Max Pratt officiating. Burial will follow in the Paint Rock Cemetery.

The family suggests donations be made to the Paint Rock Cemetery Fund, P. O. Box 3, Paint Rock, Texas 76866.
