Inducted into the United States Army WW1 324th Infantry Regiment Oct 23 1917 till Dec 9, 1917 Camp Jackson S.C. transferred to Camp Hancock Augusta, Georgia Company 1 First Air Service Mechanic Regiment for training as a motormen. Departed Hoboken, NJ FEB 9, 1918 onboard Transport ship USS President Lincoln, arrived at St. Nazaire, France February 24, 1918 18 days crossing. Duty was Le Bourget Aerodrome 7 miles north of Paris, it was the first airport in France, opening for military aviation in July 1914. Billeted at Dugny, about a kilometer west of Le Bourget. Departed Breast France JUNE 9 1919 onboard S.S. AMERICA arrived on June 18, 1919, in Hoboken, New Jersey Honorably discharged from the U.S. Army on July 1, 1919
In 1933 he left Harnett county and purchased 108 acres in New Hanover county on Middle Sound loop road. He resided there for the remainder of his life.
