RUFUS BRADEN DEAD
NEWS IS A SHOCK TO HIS MANY DECATUR FRIENDS

Rufus Braden died in Phoenix, Ariz. Monday. The news of his death came in a telegram to Charles Braden, turnkey of the county jail.

Mr. Braden's death came as a surprise to his many friends in Decatur. He went to Arizona just three weeks ago for his health, but there was then no immediate prospect of his death. He was only 53 years old and up to a year before his death was strong and sturdy. Some bronchial disease killed him. The particulars of this death are not known.

His son Charles Braden, has telegraphed to Phoenix for particulars and to order that his father's body be sent to Decatur at once.

Mr. Braden was born in Ohio fifty three years ago. While he was still small he with his parents came to Macon county and settled on a farm north west of Maroa. There he lived a number of years. He married Minerva J. Bringlinger and shortly after moved to Decatur. In 1881 Mr. Braden opened a grocery store in the 800 block of North Main Street and stayed in business there eight years. After leaving the grocery business Mr. Braden bought a farm near Macon.
He lived there three years and then came back to Decatur. He was a carpenter and painter and he worked at his trade till within two years of his death. During one year of his life since he left this farm in Macon, Mr. Braden was a night watchman in the west part of the town. He was energetic and hustling. He was exposed so much that he contracted some bronchial trouble, from which it is supposed he died.

Mr. Braden leaves two children. Charles Braden, turnkey of the county jail, and Mrs. Frank Ross, who lives three and one half miles southwest of Decatur. He had three grandchildren.

No arrangements have been made for the funeral. Charles Braden expects the body to arrive some time this week.
The funeral will be held immediately after the arrival of the body.
