Funeral Held for Drowning Victim
Funeral services were held Monday at 2 p.m. at the Rock Hill Church near here for Clyde Lee Welch, 53, of Port Arthur, who drowned Friday night at 10 p.m. while fishing with a companion, Audrey Guillory, also of Port Arthur, in a bayou near Anahuac.
Welch fell out of a boat when it overturned and attempted to swim to the shore. His body was recovered Saturday at 4 p.m. Guillory managed to remain with the boat.
The Rev. Tucker Owens of Mount Pleasant conducted the funeral services and interment was in the Rock Hill Cemetery.
The Hassell and Foster Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
Mr. Welch, a painter, was born in Chandler and had lived in Henderson County most of his life. He moved to Port Arthur three years ago. He was a member of the Methodist church.
Survivors are his wife, Mrs. Era Welch; three sons, B. W. Welch of Groves, Windell [Wendell] Welch of Port Arthur, and Lloyd Lee Welch of Dallas; three daughters, Mrs. Rayford Day, Mrs. Bill Brockway and Mrs. Edith Smith, all of Dallas; five brothers, Jack Welch of Shreveport, B. G. and M. T. Welch of Chandler, Bert Welch of Port Arthur, and Weldon Welch of Houston; four sisters, Mrs. Delia Tompkins of Brownsboro, Mrs. Vivian Gideon of Houston, Mrs. Addie Blaze [Glaze] of Chandler, and Mrs. Lucille Stritchfield of Tyler, and seven grandchildren.
